TESTS AND TRIALS

Development of our technology commenced in 2004. Since then we have undertaken an extensive range of laboratory, track, gatehouse and on-road tests. The results at each stage have provided invaluable feedback into our R&D programme.

Early tests concentrated on gaining an understanding of both the optical properties of different types of modern automotive windscreens and the reflective properties of the human face. Using the findings of these tests VOL developed it occupancy detection methodology.

Based upon the proposed methodology, prototypes of increasing sophistication were designed, built and tested. Findings from each test session allowed us to iterate in on a specification for a practical occupancy detection device.

Examples of our previous tests include:

Leeds Test - Aug 2004.
Road testing of a very early prototype.
The illumination is being provided by powerful white lamps to which infrared filters have been applied.

Loughborough University Gatehouse
First used in Jan 2004. the Gatehouse remains our primary test site.

Forth Road Bridge Test
– Jan 2006
Road testing of prototype.
